(Excerpt from a short story written September 1989)
“...The boy closed the branches and the outside world retained
its damp beauty and dark colors. The rough leaves still hissed as
the soft rain pattered upon them. Inside the forest, however, the
black and white stillness was felt again. The beauty and mystery
the boy felt was unexplainable, but he realized the power of this
place. No animals stirred. Only the chirps and calls of the birds
above could be heard. The forest seemed empty, but the wide
spaces between each thin tree contained an invisible life that could
be felt as the boy stepped into the woods. Immediately, however,
he stepped back. He sensed a power that he was not yet ready to
confront. Though his spirit knew that this was the place of its
origin, the boy couldn’t bring himself forward. The forest seemed
to call him, but he remained still.
Outside the insects creaked softly. Katydids crawled among the
bushes and the rain continued to fall upon the land. The rough,
mottled leaves with their strange colors bent in the falling rain.
The scent of the damp earth penetrated the boy’s senses. He knew
that he must leave this place. The outside world would not let him
go just yet and he heard once more the continuous drone of the far
away engine.
As the boy returned to the path, the rain ceased falling. The sky
remained deeply grey and the birds continued to rise and descend
from the treetops. The day was ending but the boy knew he would
return to this place. The forest would be waiting for him. As he
reached the end of the path, he noticed large beetles boring into
the damp wood of an ancient tree. The insects seemed to be part
of the tree, their dark brown wings reflecting the wet bark.
The boy then departed, leaving the forest with a calm and
refreshed soul. He could face the world of the unnatural once more.”
Enigmatic melodies are like from out-worlds which are very characteristic to Dahlia's Tear's mesmerizing melancholy. As I hear from many people DT is not only music it is philosophy. Dionyso Ulv
